Everyone is welcome to enter some form of art, 2-D or 3-D, in the Fountain City Art Center’s theme exhibit, “America: Its Land, Its People,” January 12 – March 1, 2018. The primary requirement is that your entry or entries must reflect the theme. The way that you interpret and illustrate the theme through your artwork will go a long way toward the judge’s decisions for prize awards. Names will be covered during judging, as always. The entry fee for non FCAC members is $20 per entry, $15 for FCAC members, with a limit of two entries per person whether 2-D or 3-D or one of each. If your work is 36”x 36” or larger, including the frame, please bring only one entry. With these size and number guidelines, all entries can and will be accepted, unless it is blatantly obvious that there is no possible link to the theme, the work has been entered in a prior judged FCAC show, or the subject matter is deemed inappropriate for the younger viewers who frequent the Art Center.  Your work must be your own and not copied from someone else’s artwork, inc. photographs.  Exceptions would be parodies of famous artwork, if proper credit is given to the artist. Awards will be: Best of Show, $150; First, $100; second, $75; third, $50; four Honorable Mentions, $25 each. The theme was chosen by suggestions from and voting by the FCAC membership. Be SURE you read all show information below carefully and retain the dates for artwork delivery and pick up times! 

Dates to remember: Turn in your name, title(s), medium/media, and price or NFS (not for sale) by emailing Exec. Director Sylvia Williams: swilliamsFCAC2018@gmail.com. The deadline for pre-registration is noon, Thursday, January 4, 2018. You will receive an entry number as soon as your information is received, but keep in mind that we will be closed for the Holidays December 18, 2017 – January 2, 2018.

    • Bring in your entries on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Judging will take place on Wednesday, January 10 or Thursday, January 11.
    • The reception will take place from 6:30 – 8:00 PM, Friday, January 12, with awards announced at 7 PM. Everyone is welcome to attend the reception. We cannot store your artwork. If you cannot pick up your work, please arrange to have another show entry. Be prepared to leave your work throughout the entire show.
    • Pick up your entries between 10:15 AM and 4:45 PM on Friday, March 2, 2018.
    • Very important: If your piece is 2-D, be certain that you use strong wire, tightly strung, no more than 1/4 of the way down from the top of the frame. Absolutely no artwork will be accepted without hanging wire. We must use two hooks to hang artwork from chains. A saw tooth hanger or a loop or any other substitute for wire is not acceptable.
    • 3-D work must be self-supporting in a secure and level manner.
    • We reserve the right to photograph your entries for exhibit publicity purposes.
    • Work not picked up becomes the property of FCAC after 30 days.

Fountain City Art Center Members’ 11th Annual Show

We hope to encourage many members to enter the exhibit and to display their astoundingly wide variety of talents and interests! The show will be judged by artists Ken W. Clayton, Jr. and Charles E. Williams, Jr., both donating their services.

 

Entries may be made in any of the following categories:

  1) oil or acrylic paint                           6) photography

 2) watercolor painting                         7) pottery

  3) mixed media                                   8) stone, metal, or wood

  4) pencil or ink                                   9) glasswork and jewelry

  5) pastel or charcoal                           10) other 3-D: weaving, stitch work,

                                                                     quilting, bookmaking, etc.

 

           Awards will be made by categories with one Best of Show:

Director’s Award (any category):              $100

Best oil or acrylic painting:                        $50

Best watercolor painting:                            $50

Best mixed media painting:                        $50

Best pencil or ink:                                        $50

Best pastel or charcoal                                 $50

Best photography:                                        $50

Best pottery:                                                  $50

Best stone, metal or wood:                           $50

Honorable Mentions, four in any category, $25 each

Judges will be advised not to designate awards for any category which does not contain deserving entries. For example, if someone entered the only 2-D mixed media in the exhibit but the composition, execution and theme were without merit, then no award would be given for the mixed media category.

Rules for the Show:

1.  Each member may enter 2 pieces, with an entry fee of $15 per entry. Please bring

correct amount if in cash.

2.  Each entry must be entirely the original work of the submitting artist.

3.  Work entered into the “FCAC Members’ Show” must not have been previously

judged for a show at the Fountain City Art Center.

4.  Two-dimensional work must be wired to hang securely and must not exceed 48” by

48” framed. Wire should be no more than 1/4 of the way down on the back

      and must be very strong and very taut.

5. 3-D  work must not exceed 4’ in any direction. work must be stable.

6.  No single piece can be insured for more than $1,000.

7.  Artists must submit a completed and signed entry form upon registration

   8.  Attach a completed entry label to the back (or bottom) of your work.

9.   Entries must clearly fall into one of the 10 categories.

10.  All artists entering the 10th Annual FCAC Members’ Judged Show agree to allow

the Art Center or news photographers to reproduce images of their artwork for

“FCAC Members’ Show” publicity purposes.

11. You may offer your work for sale if you choose.

12. We will not store any packing materials, and we cannot store artwork that is not

      promptly picked up at the end of the show. Make arrangements to have someone

else pick up your work if necessary.

13.  We appreciate your understanding!.Submitting artists must be  current members

       of the Fountain City Art Center whose yearly membership dues have been paid.

14.  Submitting artists for “FCAC Members’ Show” must be at least 18 years old.

1) Pre-register by email or phone to get your entry numbers by noon, Tues, Sept. 12.

2) Bring entries Tuesday, September 19, 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM; Bring in your work

with a completed label on the back and an extra entry form copy for FCAC to

keep, fully filled out and signed.

3) Sept. 20: Artwork will be judged.

4) Sept. 22: Reception and awards from 6:30 – 8:00 PM; everyone welcome!

5) Pick up artwork: Friday, Nov. 3, 10:00 AM – 5 PM, or have someone pick up

artwork for you.

FOUNTAIN CITY ART CENTER

12th Annual OPEN SHOW

The Fountain City Art Center is pleased to host the FCAC 12th Annual Open Show! Awards will be announced during the opening reception Friday, July 14, 2017, from 6:30 – 8:00 PM at the Art Center. Our judge: Dr. Chad Airhart from Carson Newman.

Artists may offer their work for sale, but the Fountain City Art Center, as a non-profit organization, will not take a percentage of the sales. We will charge a non-refundable entry fee for each piece of artwork. Each artist will be asked to fill out and sign an entry and consent form. We will not make exceptions to the rules concerning due dates for delivery and pick-up, terms for the preparation of artwork, or other items outlined in the entry guidelines. Therefore, all artists are urged to read the guidelines very carefully and adhere to the schedule.OPEN SHOW GUIDELINES

– All work submitted to the FCAC Open Show must be entirely the original work of the submitting artist. The artwork must not have appeared at the Fountain City Art Center in a juried and/or judged show in the past.

VERY IMPORTANT: Two-dimensional work must be wired to hang safely and securely. We will not accept 2-D work with no hanging wire. Two-dimensional entries must not exceed 48” x 48” framed. VERY IMPORTANT: The wiring should stretch tautly on the back from one side to the other. Do not make a wire loop attached to the back.  Place the wire 1/4 of the way down from the top.

– Three-dimensional work must not exceed 3’ in any direction. Please make sure that the work is stable enough to be placed on a piece of display furniture provided by the Art Center. The Open Show Receiving Committee has discretionary authority to turn down 3-D artwork entries that are not reasonably stable.

– The Fountain City Art Center will not insure an individual piece of artwork for more than $1,000, including framing. Please keep this restriction in mind as you choose your submissions.

– Each artist may submit up to two entries. The entry fee for each work is $15 for Art Center members and $20 for non-members. The entry fee is non-refundable, and is used for prizes, reception food, and judges’ gratuities.

– A completed and signed entry form and entry fees must be submitted with artwork.

– Attach completed entry labels on the back of all 2-D work or on the bottom of 3-D work. Entry numbers will be assigned in advance if you submit your title, medium/media and price/NFS by email or in written form one week before the show opens: swilliams@fcartcenter.com, any time before 12:00 PM, Friday, July 7, 2017

– All artists entering the Fountain City Art Center Open Show agree to allow the Art Center or news photographers to reproduce images of their artwork for Open Show publicity purposes.

– The Art Center will not store wrapping or boxes of any kind. Artists must take possession of all wrapping materials before leaving the Art Center.

All work in the exhibition must remain at the Art Center until the end of the show without exceptions.

 

DATES FOR SUBMITTING AND PICKING UP ARTWORK

Entries will be accepted from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM Tuesday, July 11, 2017.

– Presentation of awards, 7 PM, will be made at the opening reception, 6:30 – 8:00 PM, Friday, July 14. Friends and family of the artists are encouraged to attend!

Work exhibited in the Open Show must remain in the show through August 10. Artists will pick up their work Friday, August 11, 10:15 AM – 4:45 PM. Artists will be charged $5.00 a day for each piece left at the Art Center after August 11, 2017. If you can’t pick up your work, arrange for someone else to pick it up for you. After 30 days, the artwork becomes the property of the Fountain City Art Center if not picked up.
