General Instructions: to sign up for classes, call or email the Art Center Monday-Saturday, MWF 10-5, TTH 9-5, Sat. 9-1. (Exception: Call clay instructors directly to schedule.) Sign up early and pay two weeks before classes begin. Mail in checks or bring payment to the Art Center. Checks should be made payable to the “Fountain City Art Center” or “FCAC”. You will receive a full reimbursement if a class or workshop is cancelled by the instructor or by the Art Center. Prices listed indicate member/nonmember of the Art Center. Materials lists are available for classes and workshops at the front desk, by email, or by mail when applicable. Gift certificates can be purchased for all classes and workshops. YOU ARE NOT ENROLLED UNTIL YOU HAVE PAID CLASS or WORKSHOP TUITION!





WATERCOLOR


 Intensive Beginners Watercolor  for the Complete Novice Part I and Part II, Kate Aubrey; Dates TBA summer or fall 2018. Three Thursdays in a row, 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM, lunch break included.  Cost: $105 for FCAC members and $120 for nonmembers. Have you been bitten by the watercolor bug, but don’t know where to start? This introductory class is designed to teach essential techniques while letting students experiment with confidence and achieve successes one step at a time. Learn about the basic watercolor tools and supplies, what to look for and how to use them. Discover how watercolor works and the joys of glazing, wet-in-wet and other basic techniques. Upon completion of the class, students will have a working knowledge sufficient to practice on their own projects and move forward to the intermediate and advanced levels with or without additional formal training. Individualized Watercolor Instruction, Instructor Kate McCullough.

Cost of this 6 wks. class is $100/$115. Students will work on projects of their own choosing and at their own pace with individualized instruction, tailored for each student’s skill level and specific learning goals. Classes will meet from 1:00 – 4:00 PM on Wednesdays. Kate will have a materials list at the front desk at the Center; we can also email/mail copies.

Beginning Knitting, instructed by Charlotte Walton,

To schedule a class with the instructor, please call or email the Art Center and ask to speak with the Director. You’ll learn the basics of how to keep stitches even, how to cast on and off, and how to knit and purl. Students will complete a scarf in this class. You’ll also receive tips about helpful tools and their uses More advanced classes can be scheduled after this introductory set.

Basic Drawing Practice: Instructor Lee Edge

 If you are interested in a drawing class with Lee Edge, please call or email the Art Center to indicate the kind of drawing skills you are interested in.  As soon as we have at least eight students interested, a date can be announced. Our instructor has a long round trip to make to FCAC and would like to be sure that  we have plenty of interested students participating..

6 wks., Wednesdays, 1 – 4 PM, new dates TBA; $110/$125. “Each participant will need a drawing board of some non-flexible surface…wood, tempered Masonite, etc, a “T”-square, a transparent plastic 30/60/90…right…angle, kneaded and synthetic erasers, masking tape, very inexpensive color pencils, a hand held pencil sharpener of good quality, a selection of drawing pencils, especially a 2H, HB, and some softer types like 2B and 4B, a 14”x17” drawing spiral tablet such as Canson 90 LB. or similar.   NOTE: Enrollment of 8 students or more required to hold these classes.

WORKSHOPS:


Handmade Books Workshop

“Fanfold Journals,” Bob Meadows, instructor; will be rescheduled for a Saturday, 10-4. $60/$75, materials included. Create 2-3 journals combining fan folds, sewing and cutting skills. Not recommended for beginners. Bring cutting mat, scissors, craft knife, pencil and ruler.

Terry Chandler Spring Landscape Workshop,  Fri. & Sat. spring 2018, 10 AM – 4 PM both days.

Students can enroll for just one day ($110/$120) or for both days ($165/$185). Checks should be made payable to “Fountain City Art Center” or “FCAC.” Mail checks to FCAC at 213 Hotel Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37918.

Friday: Terry will be demonstrating a fall landscape acrylic painting using brushes. He will supply all materials EXCEPT for the acrylic brushes. Friday students should bring a variety of medium to small brushes suitable for use with acrylics. A combination of rounds, flats, Filberts, and brights would be fine. Students might also want to bring their own water container, spray bottle, and roll of paper towels.

Saturday: Terry will be demonstrating how to paint a landscape with palette knives. The class size needs to be10 minimum and 15 maximum. Those signing up for both days will receive enrollment priority. Students must pay in full to be registered. If the class does not fill up, the Fountain City Art Center will refund tuition paid.
